The Lounge Kittens

How are you liking Sweden so far?

Zan: So far we haven’t seen very much of it. We drove through it this morning. It’s very pretty.
Jen: And we got family here so…
Timia: Yeah I’m super pumped I got quite lot of friends coming this evening and my sister’s here, she lives in Stockholm, so she flew in, so I’m super excited, I’ve been really looking forward to Gothenburg, really looking forward to the show.

How has it been touring with Steel Panther so far?

Jen: Absolutely incredible.
Timia: Having the best time, ever! So, so, so much fun.
Jen: Such an incredible band for live performance, you know, their showmanship on stage is just incredible to watch.
Zan: And they’re so nice. All the band, all the crew, everyone is looking after us like we’re part of the team, it’s just totally nice backstage. The band’s really friendly, everyone is watching everyones shows and making sure everyone is alright.
Timia: Yeah, there’s real support there, real support and love.
Zan: It’s just the best time!
Jen: Don’t want it to end, ever!

What music video has been the most fun to make?

Jen: Well, Gloryhole was pretty…intense…
Zan: The more videos we make the more ambitious they get. The storylines and the costumes and everything. The days that we film them get longer and longer, so yeah Gloryhole was like a fifteen hour shoot.  But I don’t know, they’re all really good fun for different reasons.  Rollin video was pretty fun, we just did it for a laugh, for ourselves.
Timia: It was out first one as well we didn’t know what we were doing and-
Zan: So it’s basically just us being silly, which is what we love to do and now they’re sort of becoming more complicated, more structured and more, the storylines are getting more exciting. So then it becomes more fun in a different way. Party Hard was a really good one too.
Timia: I really enjoyed Part Hard, we got to splash around in a swimming pool for Party Hard. But then we had to go out and do more filming.
Zan: In the cold!
Timia: We just finished here, this was nice. Yeah they’re always fun, it’s always a fun day. But it’s a long day always.

So are you thinking of making your own songs or do you want to stick to covers?

Jen: I think, part of why we work is the fact that we do covers in a totally different way.I don’t think the magic would be there anywhere near as much if we wrote our own music.
Zan: I think if we did it, it would have to be kind of comedy style songs. I don’t think anybody really wants to listen to you know this pretty ballad that we just written. We don’t really want to sing that stuff. The joy we get from what we do is that we get to sing songs that we love and then just in the style that suits us. At the moment I’m pretty happy.
Timia & Jen: Me too.

Well that’s important.

Jen: It is!

What’s your favorite song to play live?

Zan: This tour, Gloryhole. The panther fans love it, everyone sings along, it gets them really pumped up for panther which is obviously our job as the warm up act. To get them all really excited for Steel Panther.
Timia: You know what I also really enjoy? Rammstein.
Zan & Jen: Oh yeah!
Timia: So that is a brand new one we did just for this tour.
Jen: We finished it like three days ago.
Zan: We literally learnt in Hamburg in time for the show.
Timia: Like a few hours before the show and we played it, what? Like three times now. Every single time it goes down amazingly.
Zan: Everyone loves to sing along.
Timia: Everyone sings along. It’s a really really good one, I think it’s gonna become one of my favorites definitely.
Jen: I think any song where the crowd is singing along with us, it instantly pumps you up.

What Rammstein song is it?

Jen: It’s a little medley.
Timia: Starts up with Sonne, Feuer Frei and then Du Hast. Like all rolled in to one.

You gonna make it into a video?

Zan: Maybe, we been wanting to do Rammstein for  a really long time, and then we thought you know we were coming to Germany so now is the time. I think it will translate across back to the uk. Yeah maybe a video contender.

So you have played Glastonbury, Sonisphere, any other festival you got your eyes on that you wanna play?

Zan: We’re still working on our festival booking at the moment. But we might have a very exciting announcement on Friday about that. But we can’t talk about it yet!
Jen: Sorry we can’t give you an insider scoop!
Zan: But yeah, we’re hoping to be back at Glastonbury again so that was a really big one for me last year. Sonisphere is not happening this year so…We would love to do some European festivals!
Timia: I love doing festivals. Always a fun crowed at a festival. Having a good time, people taking a chance on something new. It’s always good.

What made you wanna be in a band?

Timia: Because it’s super fun.Becuase it’s fun, that’s why this whole thing started, just between friends, just for a laugh. It was never the intention to go out on tour and make it as a band and all this stuff. It was literally just like ”we like to sing together, we like to hang out, let’s sing some songs together, let’s to a couple of shows.” and then it just got out of control. Such a suprise.
Zan: We’re still pinching ourselves. We were standing at the side of the stage watching Steel Panther and we were still pinching ourselves. Because this was so not the plan. Like Timia said, it was just singing some songs and here we are.
Jen: And we still are! We’re still doing that.
Zan: But now other people want to listen to us!

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen someone in the audience to when you’ve been on stage?

Zan: We had our first beer thrown at us in Hamburg…But apparently that’s like a big rock n’ roll moment so we embraced it as a milestone in our rock n’ roll careers.
Jen: We have had people cosplay us. People who would dress up like us. Amazing, I want more people to do that.
Zan: I love is when girls in the audience make an effort to dress up because we always you know wear nice little dresses and things and I love it when the audience makes the effort to dress up. Like Steel Panther fans they all come dressed like Steel Panther and it’s quite cool to have that. I don’t know the weirdest thing I’ve seen a guy standing like this ”I’m not having any fun, I will not like this” and then eventually you get him to crack a smile or he can’t help to sing along to something.
Timia: We broke you.

Any song that you would like to cover but haven’t?

Jen: There are so many, our list is huge.
Zan: There are so many, we got lists and list of them, and we love it when our fans suggest songs we should do, and we always look through them and try. I don’t know what’s on the list next?
Timia: I think some hip-hop, some rap, that would be good. Change up the flavor sometime. Yes that’s what I’d like.
Jen: A little computer game medley.
Timia: Some themes. Movie themes, tv themes, we could do anything!
Jen: Do you have a song suggestion?

…..no

Alla: No?
Jen: It’s hard isn’t it!

Because it need to be something that everybody knows what it is.

Jen: Yeah, and sometimes they don’t work. We would get a suggestion from a fan and we would go home and work on it and it doesn’t kittenize probably.
Zan: Or one of us would be like ”oh we should do this song” and then it just doesn’t come out. Doesn’t translate right to what we do so yeah. There are certain songs you have to leave alone. Which is sad, like I like a lot of this kind of cockrock and these hairmetal bands but the harmonies are already there for those songs. It’s not alot we can do to make them different other then do a nice version of that song, so yeah for us it’s all about changing the song. So that it’s so removed from the original.

What have you got planned for the future?

Jen: Anything!
Zan: We really don’t know.
Timia: Anything could happen.
Zan: Six months ago you know we were just like riding the wave of festivals and then Steel Panther asked us to come out and tour with them, and we’ve been so focused on doing this and doing a good job that we don’t know what’s coming next. Some festivals over the summer hopefully and start working on our full album, we have our EP out with us at the moment, but we wanna work on our album so probably that. Maybe we will have a day off!
Jen: Hahaha, imagine.
Timia: A day off..

Anything you wanna say before the interview is over?

Zan: I can’t wait until I get on stage and rock the shit out of Gothenburg.
Timia: I’m excited.
Zan: I’m really excited for tonight.
Jen: Welcome to team Kitten.
